Stand Up Paddle Nights.

 

Every Wednesday we are hoping to run stand up paddling nights from our shop. They will start at 5.30pm and will run for an hour or so. We have 3 demo boards that can be used if required, (please call to check that they are not in use). For more information call the shop. See you out on the water!

 

 

Rob Does It Again…Recaptures Outright World Speedsailing Record. “Duel In The Desert Trench.”

 

 

Call it amazing…call it ballsy…call it, “The Duel In the Desert Trench.” Drama personified in Ludertiz yesterday resulted in success for Team NASSP. Mission Accompished. Rob Douglas (USA 55 / Blue Leader) has accomplished exactly what he set out to do…he proudly and courageosly recaptured the Outright World Speed Sailing Record yesterday in the Ludertiz, 2nd Lagoon Trench.

 

With winds in excess of 45 knots and sand storms and sea spray all around, Rob entered The Trench. Riding his 9m Switchblade and speed board of choice, wearing his helmet and all additional padding and protection, Rob sailed down the Ludertiz Trench into a very questionable finishing area (completely closed and close to rocks and sand banks). He has once again sailed into the annals of sailing history…World Record Speed of 55.65 knots !

 

On Rob’s second run he got fouled up during the finish and fractured his right wrist. The NASSP Team has decided to have Rob return prematurely to Boston, MA. to undergo necessary medical procedures. On his return flight Rob will be accompanied by NASSP founding sponsor Bill Lynch (USA 52 / Green Leader).

 

Meanwhile, Jamie and Morgan will keep the kites in the sky as the high wind continues to pound the 2nd Lagoon. Coach Gebhardt will remain with The Boys.

WWA Freewave 2010 Round one

The first round of the 2010 WWA Freewave competition will be held on the weekend of 18/19 September (location to be determined). The Freewave three-round format is a mixture of freestyle and waves depending on the wind and sailing venue on the day. Even if you don't want to compete, come along and check out the action. Note that entry is FREE for current WWA members, so please renew now in time for the first event. For Non-members the cost will be $10 per round. Please pay cash on the day.

 

WWA Annual General Meeting:
The same weekend, on Saturday 18th September, the AGM will be held upstairs at Molly Malones, cnr Taranaki St & Courtenay Place, at 7.30pm. The WWA welcomes all windsurfers; members and non-members to come along, have a drink and catch up. Bruce Spedding from Windsurfing NZ will also be along to speak about the activities happening at a national level. We hope you can make it.

Again we have got a season of competitive, fun and off-the-water events planned. Very soon we hope to have a new WWA website up and running. This will present a fresh face for the WWA, providing a site that is easier to keep up to date and allows members to register and pay for membership and events online. So stay tuned and get out on the water and make the most of Wellington and the spring wind!

Wild Winds Starboard SUP Demo Day, Saturday August 28th, 2010.

 

Come on down to Wild Winds, Saturday August the 28th, 2010 and try some of the new SUP boards being offered by Starboard.
We'll have a full range of Starboard SUP boards and paddles available to demo. Jeremy Stephenson from Starboard SUP NZ (as pictured), one of New Zealand's premier SUP riders, along with a couple of the Starboard SUP National Team riders will be here to answer any questions that you may have about SUP also. We'll be kicking things off at 10am with some fun races run during the day, and a free BBQ with refreshments will be put on around lunch time.This will be a great opportunity to meet and greet people within the Wellington SUP community so make sure you come along and join in the fun.

Wild Winds Kiteboarding BBQ &  Demo Day, Sunday 29th November, 12pm

 

Come on down and check out all the new and very latest 2010 Kitesurfing equipment from Cabrinha and Takoon at the Wild Winds BBQ & Demo day this Sunday the 29th at Eastbourne. We'll have the BBQ and Beers cranking from 12pm. With the weather forecast saying that the wind is to pick up from mid day, it'll be an ideal time to try out the new 2010 Cabrinha Switchblade IDS II kites, 2010 Takoon Furia LTD, Chrono and Pure kites also. We'll have our trainer kites available to use so for those that want to bring there partners or friends along and give them a taste of what Kitesurfing is all about, do it!

We’ve just landed a copy of the highly anticipated Four Dimensions Windsurf movie by Andre Paskowski. This movie is an epic for sure so make sure you drop by, grab a bite to eat and a drink, sit back and enjoy this killer flick on the big screen. Movie will start at 6pm.
